The Perfect Thanksgiving Recipe

How is it almost Christmas again?  Where did 2019 go?  If you know the answer to that question, kindly share it with me.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving, and it was a wonderful day. I spent the day with my brother, sister-in-law, and nieces. As always, the food was out of this world (my sister-in-law is a fabulous cook), and so was the company. I sometimes see memes on social media about how stressful it can be when families get together during the holidays; the memes are usually funny, and they make me chuckle, but I imagine that’s because my family doesn’t stress me out—in fact, they kind of have the opposite effect.

Yesterday, the only task we took seriously was enjoying ourselves. Nobody would have cared if the turkey was dry (it wasn’t). If you ask me what time we were supposed to eat versus what time we actually did eat, I’d answer you with a shrug, because we weren’t worried about keeping a schedule. I was told to be there “around one or two,” so I didn’t stress out about leaving by a certain time to make sure I’d arrive on time.

After dinner we sat around talking, then somehow Alexa ended up in the conversation, and before we knew it, she was playing The Village People while we did the obligatory Y-M-C-A arm gestures—we stayed seated, of course, because we were still so full that we could barely move.

By the time I left, we were dancing and planning for our debut Christmas caroling (choreographed) performance of It’s Raining Men (hallelujah, it’s raining men). Side note: I don’t really wish for it to rain men—the ER would be at full capacity with injured pedestrians.

For me, yesterday had every key ingredient to create a recipe for a perfect Thanksgiving:

1 dash of arrive “around” this time

100 tablespoons of not taking ourselves too seriously

1 group of amazing people

1 truckload of love

1 teaspoon of don’t discuss politics

DANCE LIKE NOBODY’S WATCHING for 30 minutes and don’t forget the to-go plate.

Please feel free to share this recipe with your friends and family (it’s also a hit at Christmas gatherings).
