Sunday Posts
As I sat here wondering what on earth I would write about this weekend, I was hit with a realization: I don’t have to write every week. I initially said I was going to, and because I feel like I should always do what I say I will do, I’ve done it every week even when I didn’t really have the motivation or time.
For me, the problem with writing and posting every week is that it starts to feel like work. I have a full-time job. Writing is what I do for enjoyment when I’m not working. It’s not like I have to write something every week. I mean, I don’t think anyone will call me and tell me I didn’t follow through with what I said I would do. And I don’t have a blog boss to yell at me when I miss a week.
I doubt anyone will mind if I switch from following a schedule to writing when the inspiration hits me. In fact, I think most people would prefer reading something I wrote while under the spell of inspiration as opposed to reading something I wrote because I was trying to stick to a schedule. With this newfound freedom that was really there all along, I feel okay with writing only when I have time and when I actually have something to say.
Speaking of time, it’s time to spring forward. We lose an hour. I’ve spent a good deal of the weekend doing things I don’t enjoy; I took some online courses to keep up my CPA certification. I don’t know about you, but watching courses and taking exams isn’t my idea of a fun-filled weekend. Since I did some work, I thought it would be perfectly acceptable to binge watch the last season of Game of Thrones in anticipation of the final season. So, I did.
I think getting work done is important, but it’s also important to do something you enjoy. For me, it’s a good weekend if I am productive and if I take the time to do something I like to do. This is especially true when an hour has been stolen from us; the upside of this for me is that my clock is finally right.
Anyway, I realize this post is all over the place and I apologize for that. But I felt it necessary, for two reasons to do my usual Sunday post: 1. Because it’s Sunday, and 2. So I can write about not writing every Sunday.
I hope you all have a wonderful day. Be productive. Do something fun. And don’t forget to change those clocks.
